AGRICULTURAL MYTHS AND THE IMF
Find out why farmers should oppose IMF funding!
STAFF LUNCHEON TOMORROW, 12 NOON, B-338 RAYBURN
We are hosting this luncheon, in conjunction with the Heritage Foundation, with speakers from Heritage and the National Family Farm Coalition, to explain the importance of family farms to this country. While we’re hearing from the vocal minority of large agri-businesses, the great majority of farms are still family-based. Some large agri-corporations are lobbying for IMF funding, but the family farmer knows better.
∙
99% of farms are owned by individuals, family partnerships or corporations with fewer than 10 stockholders. Only 0.4% of farms are owned by non-family corporations.
∙
30% of US farmers are 65 or older
∙
145,156 farms are operated by women in the US
Why the IMF is harmful to our U.S. agricultural interests:
IMF-recommended currency devaluations price our goods out of the market;
IMF money subsidizes our agriculture competitors, and
IMF bailout countries have higher protectionist barriers than others.
While it takes 129 days for US citizens to earn enough money to pay fed, state and local taxes—it takes only 40 days for most US citizens to earn enough to pay for their food supply for an entire year.
Let’s not increase the cost of government and give more of our farmers’ money to the IMF!
